Definitely my best month yet at +$25K. Really happy about this as it almost puts us at my year end goal. I may not have run the numbers well enough at the beginning of the year, but with five months to go, we're only short about 2.5K from the end of year goal. I hopefully will blow past it by 10K or more. That may be a lofty goal, but having seen gains of 8k and 9k in past months gives me hope we can really blow the mark away. Getting to 400k is now my new goal for year's end, but I'll keep my numbers the same on my spreadsheet. That'd be a 15% gain for the year and I'll be very pleased with that. I definitely think it's doable. Hopefully my wife will get a few more bucks in over the summer and then in September when she starts getting paid again, we can really start saving.
We're also trying to take a look at our spending. We just got back from Vegas and definitely did our share of spending while there. Hopefully we can ratchet it back, but that remains to be seen. I definitely would like to keep credit card bills under 3k for the month. I think it's doable, but we haven't been doing it. I really need to break down what we've been spending on and get a grip on it.
Another thing I'm thinking about again is our mortgage. An interest only loan is getting us nowhere. I think I'll put a couple grand into our principal, but now I'm really regretting not getting a fixed rate originally. We could have had a killer rate (same rate as we have now) AND could have been putting a lot towards principal. I'm even considering re-fi'ing to a 15 year to ratchet things up. I'm not sure we can afford those payments though. I'll have to crunch the numbers.
